What is a blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure designed to improve the appearance of the eyes by correcting sagging skin, excess oil, and droopy eyelids. It can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the patient's needs. In addition to rejuvenating the look and providing a fresher and more youthful appearance, this surgery can improve vision in cases where droopy eyelids obstruct the visual field.

Recovery Schedule

What to Expect After Blepharoplasty

Every stage of the recovery process is key to achieving safe and natural results. With Dr. Rodriguez's guidance, you'll know exactly what to expect, how to take care of yourself, and when to resume your activities with confidence.

  • The first week: rest and recovery. Dr. Rodriguez will provide detailed instructions to reduce swelling and bruising, in addition to keeping the surgical area clean. Slight discomfort, tightness or dryness in the eyes is normal, and symptoms can be alleviated with lubricating drops.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: Gradual recovery. As the initial swelling and bruising begin to go away, you'll begin to see the first results of eyelid surgery. During this phase, you can return to work and resume moderate activities, but it's important to avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or rubbing your eyes.
  • Starting from the first month. Within a month, most of the swelling and bruising will be gone. In the following months, the incisions will continue to heal and fade, integrating naturally with the eyelid contour.

It's normal to have questions. Here we solve the most common ones.

Will there be visible scars after blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty incisions are strategically placed in the natural creases of the eyelids or along the lash line, making scars virtually invisible as they mature.

What's the difference between upper and lower blepharoplasty?

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin from the upper eyelids, while lower blepharoplasty treats bags and puffiness under the eyes. Both can be done together for complete eyelid rejuvenation.

Can blepharoplasty improve vision?

Yes, in cases where droopy eyelids obstruct vision, upper blepharoplasty can improve peripheral vision by removing excess skin.

Are the results of blepharoplasty permanent?

While the results of blepharoplasty are long-lasting, the natural aging process will continue. Most patients enjoy their results for 10 to 15 years or longer.
