It's normal to have questions. Here we solve the most common ones.

Can I have a tummy tuck if I'm still overweight?

It’s recommended to be as close to your healthy weight as possible before surgery. Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss and is not intended for individuals who are actively obese. However, it can be safely performed on patients who are slightly overweight, as long as they don’t plan to lose additional weight — future fluctuations could affect the final results.

How long should I wait to see my abdomen completely flat?

Although you'll notice an immediate change after surgery, your abdomen will be swollen for several weeks. Most patients begin to see a much more defined contour after 6 to 8 weeks, but the final result may take 3 to 6 months to consolidate. The disciplined use of the post-operative girdle is key to controlling inflammation.

Can I have this surgery if I have a history of a C-section or umbilical hernia?

Yes, and in many cases, tummy tuck improves the appearance of the C-section scar or allows small umbilical hernias to be corrected during the same surgery. Dr. Rodríguez performs a prior evaluation to define the most appropriate surgical approach based on your medical history and objectives.

How painful is the postoperative period?

The pain is moderate, especially in the first 3 to 5 days, and is usually well controlled with pain relievers. The main discomfort comes from muscle tension and inflammation. It's common to walk hunched over for the first few days. Dr. Rodriguez and his team manage pain in an early and planned manner to make recovery as comfortable as possible.

What happens if I become pregnant after a tummy tuck?

Subsequent pregnancy is not contraindicated, but may alter the results obtained, especially if the abdominal muscles strain again. Therefore, it is recommended to perform tummy tuck when future pregnancies are not planned, or after the last child.
